I taught the techniques of kitbashing and photorealistic renderings during this module to 2nd year architecture students. Kitbashing, which began as a hobby, involves producing strange, imaginary objects by glueing physically unexpected arrangements of plastic pieces, using different and multiple model kits. This technique is mainly used by designers of science fiction films (Alien's creature, Star Wars' spaceships) to produce special effects. This Kitbashing process was the inspiration for my students in developing, two and three-dimensional complex

forms through modelling software such as Rhinoceros and Maya. Production was achieved by manipulating, synthesising and arranging the selected parts in different ways as a result of boolean operations. The students used the skills of mental synthesis, spatial reasoning and imagery in the operation process. The resulting products were often rich in detail, difficult to name, unusual and in some cases grotesque. These renders produced by the students showed though the digital image may not be the original it can still look realistic.
